Starting in early May, the MSSA Tournament Seriesbegins with the World’s Largest Striped Bass Tournament, The Championship on the Chesapeake (The Championship). The MSSA Tournament Series is one of the most diverse and grueling tournament series in the world. The four tournaments range from Chesapeake Bay striped bass fishing to inshore flounder fishing to offshore tuna fishing. Weather and fishing conditions are completely different for each tournament along with completely different gear and methods. The MSSA Tournament Series and Captain of the Year contest truly measures the skill and talent of our Captains and anglers.
The Captain of the Year contest has been around for many years and continues this year with additional awards and prizes. While the formulas for each tournament are unchanged, the competition is even greater along with the awards and prizes.
Captain of the Year Rules and Regulations:
Anyone can compete. You do not have to be a USCG Captain to compete in the Captain of the Year contest. The MSSA defines a “Captain” as the person who is named on the application for any of the MSSA Tournaments.
Captains are automatically entered upon registration in any of the four tournaments that make up the MSSA Tournament Series
Captains and crew are subject to polygraph tests as defined in our tournament rules
All tournament rules are in effect where applicable
